Healthcare Programs

Clinical Assistant

Clinical assistants play a vital role in healthcare, supporting medical staff and ensuring quality patient care. ºù«Ӱҵ’s program provides hands-on training in patient history recording, vital signs measurement, medical procedures, and emergency response. With growing demand in medical offices, this program offers a direct path to employment or a foundation for further studies in medical assisting or allied health.

CNA

ºù«Ӱҵ’s CNA program trains students to provide essential patient care under RN supervision. With classroom, lab, and clinical experience, graduates qualify for State of Maine Certification upon passing the board exam. Free training is available through the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce.

Healthcare Administration and Billing

ºù«Ӱҵ’s 90-hour Healthcare Administration and Billing program provides foundational skills for entry-level roles in medical offices, hospitals, and specialty practices. Students learn medical terminology, billing and coding, and key healthcare policies while gaining remote work training for hybrid or remote positions.

Pharmacy Tech

ºù«Ӱҵ’s Pharmacy Technician course provides hands-on training in medication preparation, dispensing, inventory management, and controlled substance handling for hospital and retail settings. Graduates are eligible to take the NHA CPhT Certification Exam, opening doors to career opportunities in the field.

Phlebotomy

ºù«Ӱҵ’s Phlebotomy Program trains students to collect blood samples in a lab setting using various techniques and equipment. Designed for both new and experienced healthcare professionals, the program covers medical terminology, anatomy, lab math, blood composition, and infection control.


HVAC Programs

Heat Pump Installation

ºù«Ӱҵ’s Heat Pump Installation Training equips professionals with the skills to install and service single-zone mini-split heat pumps. Hands-on labs cover wiring, troubleshooting, piping, refrigerant handling, and system maintenance. Designed for licensed heating oil and gas technicians, HVAC technicians, electricians, and contractors.

Oil Burner Technician

Start your heating career with ºù«Ӱҵ’s 160-hour Oil Burner Technician course. Gain hands-on training and qualify for the State of Maine Journeyman License Exam. Limited spots available at no cost through the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan.

Propane & Natural Gas Technician

ºù«Ӱҵ’s four-month Propane and Natural Gas Heating program provides hands-on training in residential and light commercial systems. Approved by the Maine Fuel Board, it prepares students for the State of Maine Gas License and Appliance Connection and Service Technician exam.


Other Workforce Programs

CDL

In partnership with Ancora Training, ºù«Ӱҵ offers a 160-hour Class A CDL program that provides hands-on training in tractor-trailer operation. This FMCSA-compliant Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) prepares students for the commercial driver’s license exam and a rewarding career in the transportation industry.

Culinary Bootcamp

ºù«Ӱҵ’s Culinary Bootcamp offers hands-on training in cooking techniques, workplace practices, and food safety, leading to the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Exam. Labs are held Saturdays at Stearns High School Cafeteria, with orientation and exams at Katahdin Higher Education Center. Knife sets and uniforms are provided; students must wear closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes.

Electric Vehicle Technician

The Electric Vehicle Technician Program is a free 50-hour course through the Maine Jobs and Recovery Act, designed to help automotive technicians gain the skills needed to work with evolving vehicle technology.

Learning Facilitator

The Learning Facilitator Program is a high-touch, fast-track training program for paraprofessional level educators. The program was developed in partnership with the Maine Department of Education. Participants will earn stackable digital badges that demonstrate the earner’s competency in core content areas. Participants who complete the full Learning Facilitator Micro-Credential program are eligible to receive an Education Technician III through the Maine Department of Education.


Public Safety/Emergency Medicine Programs

Emergency Medical Technician

EMS 131 – Emergency Medical Technician (7 Credits) provides the foundational training needed for entry-level emergency medical care and patient transport. Through lecture and hands-on labs, students learn critical skills such as patient assessment, airway management, CPR, spinal motion restriction, and medication administration. Upon successful completion, students are eligible for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. This course serves as a stepping stone for advancement to Advanced EMT and Paramedic levels.

EMS First Responder

Ready to make a difference? The First Responder course trains you in lifesaving techniques to stabilize patients until emergency medical services arrive. With classroom and hands-on training, successful completion qualifies you for Maine State Licensure. This free, grant-funded course is designed for accessibility, with Monday evening classes and Saturday labs.

Fire Officer I

The first course in ºù«Ӱҵ’s Fire Officer series, this awareness-level program prepares company officers for real-world leadership challenges. Designed to develop stronger leaders, it covers strategy and tactics, operational planning, shift dynamics, customer service, code enforcement, public education, and legal considerations in fire service management.

Heavy Vehicle Extrication

Maineiac Fire Training’s Heavy Vehicle Extrication program covers the four phases of extrication and the techniques needed to safely remove occupants from accidents involving large vehicles. Participants will learn about energy transfer in crashes, school bus accident response, command presence, resource utilization, and effective communication with media, parents, and witnesses.
